The position of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician is available immediately for the Maintenance Department for Floresville ISD. Position Function/Purpose: Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including rooftop equipment. Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring. 2. Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components and relocate and expand existing HVAC systems as needed. Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and piping according to code specifications and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics. 3. Maintain preventive maintenance schedules, inspection, and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils. Perform duct cleaning and air quality testing as needed. 4. Receive and complete work orders. 5. Select material and hardware, make time and materials cost estimates, and maintain accurate records on material and labor used. 6. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. 7. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials including maintaining coolant dispensing and other compliance records to meet state and federal requirements. 8. Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation assessments to realize most efficient, cost-effective use of HVAC energy. 9. Respond to emergency calls as needed. 10. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. 11. Review and follow energy and water conservation practices. 12. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district as needed. 13. Safely operate motor vehicles assigned in strict accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and policies of the Floresville Independent School District. 14. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report problems with equipment and tools to supervisor immediately. Practice care and preventive maintenance on tools, vehicles and equipment. 15. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures and practice safe handling of tools and equipment. 16. Wear safety and protective gear (PPE) and equipment at all times. 17. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 18. Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding equipment, tools, and facilities. 19. Review, participate and complete all Safety Trainings. 20. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • High School graduate or GED • Valid Texas Driver’s license • Ability to perform mathematical calculations • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems • Ability to use hand and power tools • Refrigerant Recovery License (Required) • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material EQUIPMENT: Multi-Meter, refrigeration gauges, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, other equipment and tools, and vehicles. WORK CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, standing, walking, crouching, reaching forward, and handling of various materials; will require occasional climbing of stairs and ladders and occasional crawling and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequent driving. Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts, objects, and vehicles; may work alone, regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours. Frequent district-wide travel. PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 245 days
